Getting ready for travelling

Today we had a travel info breakfast together with special guests Emma from Tanzania, three students from last year’s project and Sara Lindeman who will be leading a New Global project in Tanzania. We got some useful tips on dos and don’ts in Dar es Salaam and even learnt a couple of words in Swahili! We also agreed to do village breakfasts in town in order to learn about culture and understand local living better.

Do: Always say yes when offered a hot cup of tea
Don’t: Take your laptop with you when going in the communities

Swahili basics:
Karibu – Welcome
Jina lako ni nani? – What is your name?
Naomba maji – I would like some water
Ninahitaji chakula – I need food
Kahawa ama chai? – Coffee or tea?
Kumi kifaru – Ten rhinos (maybe :))
